July 3: Fun, Fire, and Friends

Get your friends together for a night of refreshments, metalsmithing, and fun. This course at the Dillon/Rose Studio in Tulsa teaches beginners the basics of metalsmithing, from filing to stamping. At the end of this 3-4 hour class, participants take home the beautiful custom bracelet they worked on throughout the evening. As one of the first July events, this is a great way to kick off a month of fun.

July 4: Folds of Honor FreedomFest 2019

From 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM on Independence Day, head down to Veterans Park or River West Festival Park for free activities, food trucks, live music, and more. To add to the excitement, the Red Bull Sky-Diving Team will be performing a jump landing at the River West Festival Park. This will happens shortly after the FreedomFest Color Guard Parade, National Anthem, and Presenting of the Colors. The night ends with a fireworks display over the Arkansas River. This is one of the top July events in T-Town!

July 4: Fish and Fireworks

For those looking for a more mellow way to spend Independence Day, Fish and Fireworks might be for you. The Oklahoma Aquarium features a riverfront backyard that is perfect for viewing the fireworks of the Fourth of July. For half price admission, families can check out neat exhibits inside and enjoy the lit-up sky outside.

July 10-14: Woody Guthrie Folk Festival

On the weekend closest to Guthrie’s birthday on July 14, his hometown of Okemah holds this celebration to commemorate the life and music of Woody Guthrie. For the 22nd Annual Woody Guthrie Folk Festival, performers include Arlo Guthrie, John Paul White, Willie Watson, Joe Purdy, and more. As one of the top musical July events, six different venues will host a variety of guests, from speakers to musicians, all in the name of music. Kid friendly concerts and classes include a harmonica class, songwriting workshop, and performer Ellis Paul.

July 12: Tulsa Funk Festival

If Folk does not hit the spot, then the Tulsa Funk Festival might be a more fitting event. From 5:00 PM to 2:00 AM, get your funk on at the Tulsa VFW with Cherokee Rose, Doctor Junior, Deep Sequence, and more. The Funk Festival will also feature a variety of vendors from crafts to henna art as well as a food truck. Remember to buy your tickets early as this is one of the July events you will not want to miss.

July 12-14: Tokyo in Tulsa

This year, Tokyo in Tulsa will take place in Broken Arrow with the theme of Cowboys Vs. Aliens. Take this weekend to participate in Oklahoma’s largest anime, Japanese, and pop-culture event. From cosplay to panels and workshops, there is something for everyone at Tokyo in Tulsa. This is one of the more unique July events in the area, but it makes for a great weekend with friends.

July 13-14: TRM’S Annual Gem, Mineral, and Jewelry Show

For those who are crafty or interested in the scientific side of things, the Tulsa Rock and Mineral Society invites you to their annual gem, mineral, and jewelry show at the county fairgrounds. Top activities include a fluorescent display, touch-and-feel display, and of course, many vendors offering gems, beads, crystals, fossils, and jewelry. This is one of the many family-friendly July events and is a great way to spend the weekend. Children 12 and under get in free with one adult admission.

July 18-20: 53rd Annual Porter Peach Festival

Head south to the Peach Capital of Oklahoma for this carnival that lasts all weekend and has one focus: peaches! Peach orchards have been an essential part of Porter’s history for more than a century, and the town loves to show it. This weekend includes carnival rides, vendors, arts and crafts, games, foods, and most importantly, free peaches. Without a doubt, this is the peachiest of all July events in Oklahoma.

July 20: Taste of Summer Ice Cream Festival

Once you have had your fill of peaches, head back to Broken Arrow for an afternoon of ice cream, vendors, and more. Blue Bell releases the featured ice cream flavors sometime before the event so participants can decide what they are craving. $5 gets you admission to the festival and includes unlimited ice cream, entertainment, and more. The only thing you need to be careful of is getting a brain freeze.
